Sorry for posting this twice, it has been pointed out to me that I fail at polls.
I've been thinking on how to get more players for the game, and regular advertising means haven't been doing much. So... what if we change the game to a multifandom game and allow other characters outside of the FMA realm to join? As far as the game's history goes, it would be simple progression of the dimensions breaking down more to allow for this (since similar things happen around Halloween, anyway).
I think that by doing this, we'd probably be able to snag quite a few new players and make the game a lot more active and chaotic with the addition of more fandoms.
Now, as far as the game itself is concerned, nothing but extra fandoms would change. Everything would still be set in Central, we'd still do our annual Halloween thing, and there will definitely still be random dimension switches to make the characters cry. The format would stay the same, there'd only be OOC and IC versions of new characters, etc.
I'd really like opinions and input on this, on whether or not you think this is a good idea. Also, poll.

Date: 2008-01-25 09:12 am (UTC)2) make sure no elements get introduced that would throw off the balance/"realist" like a DBZ char or brings in conflicting elements of play (well I suppose that's obvious)
3) would the approval system remain the same? I feel there will be a lot more contention with chars from other fandoms
4) is it ok if people drop chars to pick up other ones? (hypothetical)

Date: 2008-01-25 07:43 pm (UTC)2) Good point and that's something I should have mentioned in the first post. I'm in conflict over that, actually. With the dimensions fluctuating, should the characters from the new fandoms be allowed to keep their powers or should they disappear/switch to alchemy? (Like if we have a Howl come in, he'd keep is magic, etc.) I kind of want to say they should keep their powers to allow for more chaos, but I would really like to know what you guys all think before anything is introduced.
3) The approval system will probably remain the same (though require the approval of both mods), but the application itself will mostly get an overhaul. I feel like it would almost have in this case.
4) People are always welcome to drop and pick up new characters at their leisure. There is still the three character rule, though, in which a person can play three characters at one time.
As an aside, if the game does become multifandom, I'll probably wait a bit to advertise so that the players here can have their first pick of new characters should they choose to play different ones. :p

Date: 2008-01-25 10:39 pm (UTC)If, however, I'm talking out of my ass and people would be more interested in joining a multi-fandom game, that's alright with me, I suppose. I would rather have new people in a multi-fandom game then not have new people. Also, I know this suggestion might not come as TERRIBLY useful and if it's dumb, just tell me so, but...
I know I've pitched the idea of joining OMG to a lot of RP friends of mine, but I'd say at least 50% were very turned off by the script-format aspect of it. I personally find it cumbersome, as well, and perhaps I just associate with people with similar opinions. But it is possible to do livejournal roleplay that is in a more narrative style, and perhaps that will attract more of the quality players who dislike the format enough that they don't even consider the premise? Again, it's just a thought.
